Biogrāfija
Part 1. Alpha.
Year 2005. Hot summer day in mid august. Guitar player Jurgis arrives to his 1st rehearsal following an ad in the newspaper: ”a band is looking for a lead guitarist”. Equipped with a cheap Stratocaster copy and a distortion pedal he meets 3 strange guys near Riga, Latvia – Edvards, Alex and Kuļa (only the drummer Edvards remains in the current line-up). After showing them his skills, they decide to join forces. At the time they all had played their instruments for only a year. Unfortunately the bass player’s house, where they rehearsed, burned down soon after (probably because of disappointed Christian neighbors.. but who knows.. ). So they had to postpone future actions for an unknown period of time..
Part 2. March Of Destruction.
Drinking leads to various things – half a year later the band meets a vocal performer Oskars in a bar, while “planning the future”. And soon after, in 2006 they are back in the rehearsal studio. Rhythm guitarist Kuļa decided to quit the band due to personal reasons and a new member – Andis was found. At first this was meant to be a Black Metal project, but soon they realized that it is not brutal enough to fulfill their musical needs and decided to turn to the all-mighty Death Metal.
In June 2, 2007 they had their first live performance, under the name “Cult Of Destruction”, far away from the capital city. It was very interesting to play on a stage that used to be a barn, while chickens where roaming around during the show… But it was great to perform for the 1st time. After that, the band played in various metal events in Riga.
In 2008 Cult Of Destruction participated in a local contest for new metal bands – ”Fresh Blood”. And guess what..? They won. Big time! But nothing much changed and they continued to play locally. The biggest event was “Metalshow Open Air 2008”, after which Andis left the band, and C.O.D. decided to become a quartet, with a single guitar, bass, drums and vocals. After that, Alex – the bass player – emigrated from the country, and Matīss B took his place. For a short period of time they had a keyboard player – Magnuss, which was soon replaced by Matīss R.
Local shows continued.
Part 3. Birth Of The Creator.
In 2009 the band took a break due to guitar player’s Jurgis’ personal life, but in 2010 they got back together full of new ideas and even more energy and skill. And a decision was made – Oskars’ vocal performance was not appropriate for the band’s needs. And so, the band became a quartet again, with the guitarist Jurgis performing the vocals, and the title was changed to the current – “OPIFEX”, which means “The Creator”. Opifex started to rehearse and work on new material, which was significantly different – they entered the realm of Progressive Death Metal. Soon after, Matīss R – the keyboard player left the band and they became a trio, but not for long… In January 2011 a new member – Artūrs, who took the lead vocals, was found. And thus, their first demo “Overload” was recorded in their own rehearsal studio. Now, again as a quartet, OPIFEX continues to work on new material and is looking for places to gig.
Opifex`s music is described as fast, arrhythmic and very surprising by a professional musicologist.
The main lyrical themes are the corruption and self-destruction of humanity, death, greed, social filth, injustice, existence, putridity and passion.
